About

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to peruse my portfolio. My name is Kyle Cooney, I'm a designer currently living in San Francisco and working for Yahoo! in Sunnyvale, CA. As of the time of writing this, I've been employed with Yahoo! for nearly 1 year focusing on Interaction Design for their Real Estate, Autos, Shopping, Search and Health properties.

Prior to working at Yahoo!, I spent the last 9 years living and working in our nation's capital. Most recently to Yahoo!, I was employed as an Interaction Designer and Information Architect for Revolution Health, an online health portal founded by Steve Case who previously brought AOL to our lives. While at Revolution Health, I focused mostly on search and directory based projects, including leading the interaction design for the launch of their Doctors, Hospitals & More product, their Medicine Chest (now known as Drugs & Treatments) product, as well as components of their Community and Personal Health Record products.

In my experience as a designer, I've found great personal reward and accomplishment, particularly when it comes to designing search and social software. I've conducted and contributed to extensive quantitative user research in both realms and have driven designs that have been on the leading edge while at Revolution Health, which helped bring me up to speed with ease while working on Yahoo! Search.

In addition to my experience designing for search and social media, I've also designed or participated in the design of multiple content management systems, back-end systems for both Yahoo! Shopping as well as the FCC,

Other relevant experience includes working for one of Washington, DC's most respected and successful design studios, Threespot Media LLC. While at Threespot, I acted as Technical Support Project Manager where I oversaw technical support of web properties for their largest client to date at the time, Service Employees International Union(SEIU). In addition to SEIU, I also helped manage projects for other Threespot clients, including America's Most Wanted, and Balducci's.

In addition to my experience as a designer and as a project manager, I also garnered significant experience early in my career working as a front-end web developer, focusing on standards-based XHTML and CSS development while working first at a small technology services startup, eyeo, and then again as a contractor working at the FCC. I voluntarily began utilizing web standards development at eyeo in 2001/2002 when it was still uncommon for most sites to adhere to standards, and sites like ESPN and Wired had just begun to turn the page on web standards development. I also exposed myself and to learning Java to aid my team at eyeo in the creation of a content management system, and have taught myself the basics of technologies such as JavaScript and Ruby on Rails for the purpose of simple implementations and/or prototyping. I have found all of the above experience endlessly helpful as it has helped me communicate and garner of the respect of engineers throughout my career. It has also had the affect of helping communicate engineering concepts to other designers, product managers, and other stakeholders in the development process.

Regardless of the work, I try to approach my career with vigor, an attention to detail, and a positive spirit and attitude that I try to infuse into others in the workplace. There is hardly a day that goes by that I don't appreciate the great career that I've been fortunate to enjoy.

Thanks again for taking a moment aside out of your day to learn about me and read this short biography.

Warmest regards,

Kyle Cooney
